Physical & Development Disabilities

Sports for disabilities

If your child has a disability that impacts on their physical abilities we can help you and your child achieve goals. There are many different types of disabilities around the world. Before treating your child, we will be open and honest about the types of conditions we have previously treated so that you know your child is in the best care possible! We are always willing to learn about conditions that we have not worked with before, and work with you as a team, to better improve your child’s abilities. We treat children for early intervention 0-5 years of age and when children are of school age 5-18.

Parents often bring their children with a disability to us because they may notice the following:

  • They are delayed in their gross motor skills
  • Unable to keep up with other children
  • They require specific exercise to help keep their bodies strong and moving in the right direction
  • Their child trips and falls
  • Their child has orthotics and requires training to get used to them
  • They complete tasks fast and unable to execute tasks. Such as throwing and catching a ball, hitting a ball with a bat, kick a ball
  • They have pain
  • They want to keep in touch with a therapist to ensure they are doing everything they can to help their child with their condition

Conditions I treat:

  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA)
  • Trisomy 21 (Downs Syndrome)
  • Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD)
  • Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
  • Muscular Dystrophy (Duchennes, Emery Dreifuss)
  • Global Developmental Delay
  • Ehlers Danlos syndrome (EDS) and those with hypotonia (low tone)
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Many more
