Some common reasons that parents bring their infant to physiotherapy include:
- Abnormal head shape (Plagiocephaly): If you have concerns about your child’s head shape. If it has a flat spot on one side or a shape you are concerned about.
- Holding head in an unusual position (Torticollis): If your child always tilts their head to one side or turns their head only to one side.
- Tummy time struggles: If you find placing your baby into tummy time difficult, parents often bring their children for tips and guidance around tummy time
- Milestone delay (Gross motor delay): If you are concerned about your child not achieving their gross motor skills such as rolling, crawling, sitting, standing and walking.
- Clicky hips (Developmental dysplasia of the hip): If you are concerned about a click or clunk in your infant or babies hips, differing crease lines on both legs or your child doesn’t like to move their leg or holds in a different position to the other leg all the time.
- Feet positions: If your infant’s feet curl in, out or up and look abnormal to you and you are concerned.
- Asymmetrical movement: Where your infant doesn’t move both side of their body in the same manner.
Some common reasons parents bring their toddler to physiotherapy include:
- Walking delays: You are concerned your child is not walking yet.
- Toe walking: When a toddler is walking on their toes and their heel does not make contact with the ground.
- Intoeing (feet turning in): When your child walks, you find that their toes turn in a “pigeon toe” position.
- Tripping: You find that your toddler/ child is clumsy and trips over things and fall regularly.
- Difficulties running, jumping, and climbing: If your child is struggling to run, jump or climb.
- Avoidance of tasks: If you notice that your toddler avoids tasks that they find difficult to complete.
